Links between School and Church

As a Church of England Primary Academy Great Bowden School enjoys close links with the Church of St Peter and St Paul in the village. Below are some of the ways the school and church work together.

  • The whole school goes to Church for regular monthly services. Parents are invited and tea and coffee is provided.

  • Members of the Church visit the school weekly to lead “Open the Book” services

  • The school participates in Church initiated events e.g. Remembrance events, The Bread Harvest and the village Carol Service

  • The school also makes sure that parents are aware of Church events e.g. “ Messy Church, CafeĢ Church, Pet service, Harvest Festival

  • The school visits the Church for festivals and special occasions e.g. Harvest, Easter, Carol Service.

  • The school performs its Nativity at the Church.

  • The Church held a welcome service when the Executive Headteacher took

    up her post.

  • The school has attended musical events in Church e.g. The Carnival of the

    Animals and other performances by the Bowden Recital Trust.

  • The church has funded Bibles for all pupils at the school.

  • The Church has also made a successful bid for Bibles and biblical stories for

    the School library

  • In 2019 all new Reception pupils were welcomed to school with a book

    donated by the Church.

  • Clergy and laity are supportive of staff well-being at school

  • An annual Leaver’s service is held in Church for Year 6 children followed by

    tea and ice cream for children and their parents at The Vicarage.
