Botanical Gardens Field Trip

Classes 1 and 2 recently enjoyed a fantastic adventure at Leicester Botanical Gardens. Diving into nature with five hands-on activities:

  •  Pond dipping – spotting dragonfly nymphs and newts amongst others
  • Mini-beast hunting – discovering insects up close.
  • Herb & tree ID – learning to name plants and creatures.
  • Leaf rubbing – creating nature-inspired art.
  • Glasshouse exploration – wandering through tropical plant worlds.

Tying in with their class topics and curriculum, the children explored frog and butterfly habitats, learned about food chains, and studied lifecycles. They particularly loved pond dipping—discovering the fascinating creatures that live beneath the water's surface. And were mesmerised by the displays in the glasshouses, featuring plants they've never seen before- at school or at home.

What a memorable day of outdoor learning—thank you to everyone who made it the Leicester Botanical Gardens team and our volunteer helpers.

What a wonderful way to bring learning to life.
