River Adventures

Thank you East Mercia River Trust and the Nene River Trust for creating such a fantastic day of river learning for us on our recent trip to Medbourne. Classes 3 & 4 had an amazing day exploring rivers with the help of the brilliant teams.
The children took part in a kick sampling session, discovering all sorts of river creatures – including a mayfly larva. This helped them investigate the health of the river based on the biodiversity they found. We also tested for nitrates and phosphates and were pleased to find that the river was in a relatively healthy condition.
Afterwards, we enjoyed a lovely walk around the beautiful village of Medbourne, spotting both natural and manmade features of the river, plus lots of fish and even some dancing damselflies.
Finally, the children took part in a fun, interactive session learning all about the different features of a river and its journey – from source to sea. It was a brilliant day full of hands-on learning and outdoor adventure!
