Lawrence Children’s Prize – Writing Competition 2026 ]]> https://www.greatbowden.leics.sch.uk/blog/?pid=3&nid=2&storyid=174 Young writers are invited to take part in The D.H. Lawrence Children’s Prize Writing Competition 2026 – a fantastic opportunity for children who enjoy storytelling, poetry and creative writing.

The competition is open to children and young people up to the age of 16, who are invited to submit an original short story or poem inspired by this year’s theme: “Friendship.”

This is a wonderful chance for children to let their imaginations run free, explore their creativity and share their writing with a wider audience. There are some great prizes to be won too, including a Kindle and National Book Tokens.

The closing date for entries is 17 May 2026, so there is plenty of time to start thinking of ideas and putting pen to paper.

If your child enjoys writing, reading or creating stories, we encourage them to take part in this exciting competition.

They want to support families to choose the travel options that work best for them on the school run and beyond. Learning these skills early helps children grow into happy, confident and independent travellers as they get older.

To kick-start our journey, they will be running a Park & Stride initiative, outlined below:

• Use your local Park & Stride and scan the QR code on site.

• Once you have logged four visits, you will be entered into a prize draw.

• Log eight visits, and you will receive double entries.

Your designated Park and Stride is Great Bowden Recreation Ground.

Leicestershire County Council are proud to work with local businesses to provide Park & Stride locations and prizes for the draw. Please help us create a safer, healthier environment around the school gate by using your designated Park & Stride, even if it is only once a week. Every small change can make a big difference.
