Great Bowden Academy

Heritage Schools Award presented by Historic England

Great Bowden Academy has been awarded the Heritage Schools Award by Historic England. This special recognition celebrates the way our school has embedded local history into the curriculum, giving pupils the chance to explore the places, people, and stories that make our community unique.

On Friday, we proudly received our award plaque from Ismail Dale, a Historic England representative. Over the past few years, our children have enjoyed learning about Robert Smyth, Foxton Locks, the history of the Post Office in Great Bowden, our own school’s history, and even the Hallaton Treasure.

We are incredibly proud to receive this award. By embedding local history into our everyday curriculum, our pupils have developed a real sense of pride in their community and curiosity about the stories that shape it.

We are so proud of this achievement, and was made possible by the hard work of our Head of History Mrs Emily Cave, who presented the case alongside Curriculum Lead Mrs Sarah Walker. This award reflects the hard work and enthusiasm of both staff and pupils. It has been wonderful to see how engaged and inspired the children have become.
