The D.H. Lawrence Children’s Prize – Writing Competition 2026

Young writers are invited to take part in The D.H. Lawrence Children’s Prize Writing Competition 2026 – a fantastic opportunity for children who enjoy storytelling, poetry and creative writing.

The competition is open to children and young people up to the age of 16, who are invited to submit an original short story or poem inspired by this year’s theme: “Friendship.”

This is a wonderful chance for children to let their imaginations run free, explore their creativity and share their writing with a wider audience. There are some great prizes to be won too, including a Kindle and National Book Tokens.

The closing date for entries is 17 May 2026, so there is plenty of time to start thinking of ideas and putting pen to paper.

If your child enjoys writing, reading or creating stories, we encourage them to take part in this exciting competition.

We look forward to hearing about the brilliant stories and poems our young writers might create.
